The cyber police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported a new fraudulent scheme. Attackers create fake copies of blocked sites to collect users' personal data and then blackmail them.
“Attackers create phishing resources… After collecting data – both entered by the victim and obtained from open sources – they create a false accusation (for example, of viewing illegal content) and, threatening to publish the information, demand a ransom,” –reported in the department for organizing the fight against illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to one of the schemes, criminals demand a ransom within three hours, threatening to make confidential information public.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminded that extortion of money under the threat of disclosing personal data is a criminal offense, and any attempts by criminals to give their actions the appearance of legality do not change the essence. Their goal is only money.
