Volodimir Zelenski and Nicușor Dan had a bilateral meeting on Monday in the margin of the “Bucharest9” summit organized in Vilnius. On this occasion, the two discussed the diplomatic efforts for peace and the strengthening of sanctions, and Dan confirmed the presence at the Ukraine-Southeast Europe, which will take place in Odessa.
“I met for the first time with the new president of Romania, Nicușor Dan, and I congratulated him on his victory in the elections,” Volodimir Zelenski said in an Instagram post accompanied with images from the meeting.
He also reviewed the main topics discussed by the two officials. “We discussed the diplomatic efforts meant to ensure peace in Ukraine and throughout Europe, the meeting in Istanbul and the need to strengthen sanctions against Russia to prevent Moscow from expanding military production and continuing the war. Particular attention was paid to the future NATO Summit from Haga,” Kaga said.
“I thank Nicușor Dan for ensuring that Ukraine can count on the continuous support of Romania, on supporting Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO, as well as to confirm the president's personal participation at the Southeast Europe, which will take place in Odessa,” concludes Zelenski.
What Nicușor Dan said
At the end of the summit, Nicușor Dan had a joint press conference with the president of Lithuania, the Secretary General of NATO, the President of Poland, the Prime Minister of Denmark, and the president of Ukraine.
“We have a war in Ukraine for more than 3 years and all our countries are experiencing hybrid actions. “We need a stronger NATO, a stronger transatlantic relationship. Not only to increase our defense expenses, but also to produce military equipment to defend us.”
