Great Britain wants to buy fighters capable of carrying nuclear bombs


Earlier, London ordered 48 F-35B fighters in the USA for two aircraft carriers of the Royal Navy. 47 of them have already been delivered. “Invisible” F-35A Lightning fighters have a larger range-1,400 km. They will be the second element of the nuclear deterrence system. They can be used in situations that do not provide for full -scale wars, as well as distributed directly on the battlefield – currently Great Britain is not possible. The F-35A will partially replace the worse in terms of European characteristics Eurofighter Typhoon fighters. The Royal Air Force plans to withdraw 49 such aircraft.
Defense Minister John Healy refused to comment on negotiations regarding the purchase of F-35A, but admitted that The United Kingdom must adapt to the “new era of threats”. – The world is definitely becoming more and more dangerous. Nuclear threats are growing. For the first time since the end of the Cold War, we are dealing with real threats of inter -state conflict – he noted.
The British nuclear weapon is arranged on four atomic vanguard submarines. In December, the US plans were also reported regarding the distribution of tactical nuclear weapons in the Lakenheath military base in Suffolk.
In addition to the expansion of the nuclear arsenal, the UK government will invest 6 billion pounds (about PLN 30 billion) in the production and purchase of ammunition. 1.5 billion (approx. 7 billion 500 million PLN) from this amount will be allocated to the construction of six new military plants, which will provide 1000 jobs. The Royal Navy also wants to increase the number of destroyers and the frigate from 14 to 25.
Earlier it turned out that the British government in a new strategic defense review name Russia “direct and burning” a threat because of the ongoing war in Ukraine. The 130-page document, prepared by three prime minister's advisers, will be published on June 2.
