Prime Minister Donald Tusk hopes to mobilize the support in favor of his candidate, the Liberal Mayor of Warsaw, Vafal Trzaskowski, who wants to replace the President andrzej Duda, a nationalist who has rejected many of Tusk's attempts to reform the judicial system, writes Reuters.

“All Poland looks at us. All Europe looks at us. The whole world looks at us”, Trzaskowski told his supporters, who waved red and white Polish flags, along with the flags of the European Union.

Tusk returned to power in 2023, at the leadership of a large alliance of left and center parties, promising to cancel the changes introduced by the Nationalist Government Law and Justice (PIS), changes that the European Union said they undermined the democracy and the rights of women and minorities.

However, Vafal Trzaskowski is experiencing difficulty in obtaining an opinion in opinion polls, after defeating the nationalist Karol Nawrocki with only two percentage points in the first round, on May 18.

The supporters of Nawrocki, some wearing hats he wrote “Poland is the most important”gathered on Sunday in another area of the Capital to show their support for its intention to more closely align with US President Donald Trump's policies.

“He is the best candidate, the most patriot, the one who can guarantee that Poland will remain independent and sovereign.”said Jan Sulanowski, 42 years old.

Nicușor Dan, present at one of the marches

At the march of Trzaskowski, the new president of Romania, Nicușor Dan, promised to collaborate closely with Tusk and Trzaskowski “To ensure that Poland and the European Union remain strong.”

The Romanian leader later posted a message on his Facebook page, in which he spoke about the common values that Romania and Poland share.

“I participated today, with emotion and hope, at the march of the million hearts in Warsaw. We came to Poland as a friend, because we share the same values: we believe in democracy, freedom and power of a united Europe. Trzaskowski – a leader in which I find the values that guide me: honesty, seriousness and respect for the law ”said President Nicușor Dan.

Nicușor Dan's unexpected victory, in the May 18 elections, in front of a radical supporter of Trump, was easily received in Brussels and other parts of Europe, as many feared that his rival, George Simion, would be complicated by the European Union to manage the Russia's war against Ukraine, Reuters said.
