The investor in cryptocurrency, John Woeltz, 37, was arrested in New York on Friday. According to the authorities, he is accused that, along with two accomplices, he has abducted and tortured a man for several weeks, most likely to find out the passwords of the digital wallet, according to The Guardian and News.ro.
Woeltz and two accomplices would have detained and tortured the 28-year-old Italian in a luxurious house in the Manhattan luxury luxury, which the investor in cryptocurrencies had rented for about $ 30,000 a month.
The alleged victim would have escaped from the house on Friday and asked for police help, who later arrested on Woeltz. The police found Polaroid photos in the house that have been documenting torture for several weeks, writes The New York Times. The same powder notes that Woeltz and another man stole the victim's devices and passport and asked them to give them the Bitcoin password to steal cryptocurrencies. When the victim refused, the torture that lasted weeks began.
The Italian told the police that he had arrived in the US on May 6, when he was kidnapped by Woeltz. The investor and the other man beat him, shocked him, hit him with a weapon that they turned to his head and hung him by the roof of the house with five-storey, threatening him to kill him. They also threatened to kill his family and force him to take cocaine, New York Daily News also reported.
According to US press, Woeltz refused to talk to the police and immediately hired a legal representative. He was charged on Saturday for four crimes, including abduction with the intention of requesting redemption, and pleaded innocent. A judge ordered him to be arrested preventively without the right of bail.
Many details of the case remained unclear on Saturday, including how Woeltz and the man knew each other.
