Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski rejected Vladimir Putin's requirement on Monday night that Ukrainian troops would withdraw from the four regions of the country partially occupied by Moscow forces, after the Russian president carried a telephone conversation with the US President Donald Trump and did not succeed, to the Fire, to the Fire.
“It is our territory, we will not withdraw our troops from our territory (…) it means that they will not be peace … If I ask what I know we will not accept,” Zelenski said in a press briefing.
His comments come after Putin had a telephone call with Trump on Monday, during which he continued to refuse an immediate cessation of fire, declaring instead that he is prepared to negotiate a “memorandum on a potential future treaty”.
The maximalist position of Russia in negotiations remains unchanged and requires “eliminating the deep causes” of the war, Putin insisted.
After the telephone discussion with Putin, Trump announced on the SA TRUTH Social platform that Russia and Ukraine will “start” negotiations for a ceasefire and a war.
“The conditions for this will be negotiated between the two parties, as it cannot be otherwise, because they know the details of a negotiation that no one else knows,” Trump said.
Donald Trump has taken over the position of US President 118 days ago, promising to end the Ukraine war within 100 days, Kyiv Independent recalls.
Putin's foreign policy counselor, Iuri Usakov, told Russian journalists that the two presidents discussed for two hours and five minutes and that a deadline for ceasing was not mentioned.
