The soldiers got into a shootout with a group of fighters in the city of Tamun in the north of West Brzeg, killing five of them and arresting one, said the army. Palestinian Islamic jihad confirmed that they were killed by members of this group.
Israel has been conducting military surgery in the north of West Brzeg since January, emphasizing that it is aimed at terrorist organizations growing in this area. This is the largest Israeli military operation on the West Bank since the end in 2005. The second Intifada, i.e. the creation of Palestinians against the occupation that has been going on since 1967.
The army reported that the soldiers killed over 100 terrorists and detained over 320 people sought after. At the same time, about 40,000 were displaced from refugee camps in Dżenin, Tulcarm and Nur Szams. Palestinians and hundreds of buildings were demolished there.
