Historical decision of the federation, through which it protects the Romanian handball players in front of the invasion of foreigners

After long discussions about the fact that the Romanian handball remained behind because the flower league is crushed by players from abroad, the federation decided to act and protect the athletes in Romania.

The handball federation decided, following the vote of the club teams, that from the 2025-2026 season to enter into force a measure by which the number of foreigners is limited, both in the female and male championship.
Minimum 3 Romanians on the ground
Each team in the internal championships must have 8 Romanian players on the game sheet and at least 3 on the field at any time. The decision will be formalized over 10 days, within the General Assembly of FRH. The measure was taken after the management of FRH organized a meeting with clubs in Romania to discuss the problem raised by Romania's handball players after last year's European championship, who accused that they do not play enough due to the large number of foreign athletes in the internal championship.
Although there were other proposals, in the end the majority came out the formula with 8 Romanian players on the game sheet and 3 on the field, at the General Assembly of FRH to be discussed and probably to approve the mandatory presence of a athlete under 21 or 23 years on the game sheet at each match.
