Large discounts on the latest iPhones 16 in China. Apple is fighting for customers


E-commerce platforms in China offer discounts on iPhones 16 dating back to 2530 yuan, i.e. $ 351 – writes Reuters.
Smartphones are one of the main goals of a wider Chinese consumption stimulation plan in China, in which local authorities in large cities, such as the capital of the Beijing country, offer subsidies up to 500 yuan (approx. PLN 260) for mobile phones cheaper than 6000 yuan (approx. PLN 3.1 thousand).
Chinese online sellers are increasingly striving for customers paying attention to costs in a slow economy, and price reductions play the main role before the annual shopping festival “618” falling on June 18, one of the largest in the country.
How much does the iPhone 16 cost? Discounts on Chinese platforms
JD.COM sells iPhone 16 Pro with 128 GB memory for 5469 yuan, which is a decrease of 2530 yuan from the official Apple price of 7999 yuan.
The iPhone 16 with 256 GB memory is priced at 5469 yuan, which means a decrease of 1530 yuan from the official price of 6999 yuan, including government subsidies.
Alibaba Tmall Marketplace offers comparable discounts by selling the iPhone 16 Pro with 128 GB for 5499 yuan, or 2500 yuan less than the official price of Apple, after using coupons covering government subsidies.
Reuters was unable to determine whether the discounts were offered by Apple itself or by the platforms.
Apple loses, Xiaomi and Huawei are gaining
Apple has previously reduced the prices of its latest models to increase sales during the “618” festival, said Will Wong, a senior smartphone analyst at IDC.
“Apple repeats its strategy for sales promotion for last year's shopping event,” added Wong, quoted by Reuters. “Lowers the prices of iPhone 16 Pro to be able to use Chinese state subsidies for digital products.”
Deliveries of smartphones of the American technological giant in China fell by 9 percent. In the first quarter, while national competitors Xiaomi and Huawei Technologies recorded an increase by 40 percent, respectively. and 10 percent, as IDC market data show.
