Innovative system for the prevention of accidents caused by stone falls: Impact sensors installed on slopes in the Siriu area
The Regional Directorate of Roads and Bridges (DRDP) Buzău implements an advanced system of slopes monitoring on DN 10 Buzau-Brașov, in the area of Siriu, in order to increase road safety on one of the most exposed sections of the national road.

The new equipment include integrated impact sensors in the protective barriers, which can detect real -time stones and the competent authorities automatically. Thus, the interventions can be performed promptly, reducing the risks for traffic participants.
The representatives of the DRDP paid a visit to the area of the Siriu dam, where there are works of consolidation and secure the slope, following recent rock falls.
“At this stage of the works, measures to stabilize the slope are implemented by mounting the flexible retention systems, consisting of high resistance wire nets. This active protection solution has the role of preventing material detachments, contributing to the increase of road infrastructure”, DRDP Buzau transmitted on Facebook.
The novelty element is one of the most modern monitoring systems mounted so far in Romania, which allows the real -time pursuit of geodynamic events. In the event of an impact, the sensors automatically send data to a central collector, which, through GPS system, sends instant notifications to the authorities – including on mobile devices, for fast reactions.
“The implementation of this system eliminates the risk of the uncontrolled collapse of the barriers, an essential aspect for the safety of traffic on this road sector”, said Eng. Sorin Robu, director of DRDP Buzău.
“Thus, through the use of modern technologies and by continuous monitoring of the structural parameters, the execution of the execution with the project requirements is ensured and the measures for the protection of the road infrastructure are optimized”, concluded DRDP Buzău.
