Cable accident in Lisbon. The services indicate the probable cause

In an interview with PAP, asking for anonymity, people with access to the accident site said that the breaking of the queue supporting rope was confirmed. From Wednesday evening near the capital's Restauradores Square, where there was a failure, actions were ongoing to determine the causes.
The tragic event occurred on Wednesday after 18, when the queue fell out of the rails, hitting one of the buildings near Restauradores Square. 16 people were killed and 22 were injured.
The necessity of a reliable investigation
The former chairman of the Portuguese Chamber of Engineers, Carlos Mineiro Alves, has no doubts about the direct cause of the tragedy. In his opinion, a pulling rope broke, thanks to which the queue was moving.
Alves in an interview with SIC television noted that it would be necessary to conduct a reliable investigation. He revealed that the technical condition of the rope carried out 9 hours before the accident showed no defect.
On Thursday evening Pedro de Brito Bogas, head of the Carris company responsible for urban transport, including Gloria's cable car, announced the launch of an internal investigation into the causes of the disaster.
