Russia has launched 108 drones on the territory of Ukraine during the night and hit a civil goods train, the Ukrainian authorities said. The Russian attack comes after the European leaders joined President Volodimir Zelenski in requesting a 30-day fire termination from Monday, writes Reuters.

The Ukrainian air defense destroyed 55 of the 108 drones launched by Russia on Sunday night, transmitted Ukraine Air Force, according to Reuters.

The Russian attack also included 30 simulator drones that were lost on the road without hitting anything. The drones were shot down in the east, north, south and center of Ukraine, the same source transmitted.

The driver of a civil freight train was injured in a drone attack on the railway infrastructure in the east of the Donetk region, representatives of the Ukrainian railways said. “The armistice proposals are ignored, the hostile attacks on the railway infrastructure continue,” they said on Telegram.

Vladimir Putin ignored the ultimatum given on Saturday by European leaders, who asked him to accept a 30-day armistice or will face massive and coordinated sanctions, as well as increased weapons for Ukraine.

In contrast, in a press conference held on Saturday night to Sunday, the Russian president proposed direct negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul, on May 15, which, in his opinion, should aim to establish a “sustainable” peace and “eliminate the deep causes” of the war.

Volodimir Zelenski reacted by asking Moscow first to accept a cease of fire from Monday, then the negotiations will come.
