The famous Serbian director Emir Kusturica, known in the West due to his films appreciated by both critics and public, participated in the military parade organized in Moscow on Victoria's Day, the annual holiday in which Russia celebrates the defeat of Germany and its allies in World War II, Lenta reports.

Kusturica said he flew to Moscow without problems, according to a brief video record published by Shot, a popular news channel on Telegram in Russia.

Last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin received Kremlin on Kusturica, who asked for funding and made a parallel between the War in Ukraine and those of the former Yugoslavia. Kusturica told the Kremlin leader that he plans to make several films inspired by classic novels of Russian literature and asked Moscow's support.

“I have an idea … to make a Russian triptych, three films,” he said during the meeting that took place in April last year, saying that these films will be based on Dostoevsky, Gogol and Tolstoi's writings.

Kusturica, who a month before stated that he wanted to become a Russian director because of his appreciation for the Russian cinema and culture, also told Putin that he is already working on a movie about a herborian who has been based on the novel “Laur” of Evgheni Vodolazkin, whose action takes place in medieval Russia.

The 70 -year -old director said that if Putin supports him to finish all these films, he will end his career.

Before presenting his projects last year, Kusturica was pleased with the Russian President for his “personal historical justice”, which he stressed to “always” to Slavi.

“What is happening now in Ukraine is a struggle for us.

“Banging” is a term used by Russian propaganda to describe the Ukrainians as ultranationalists who are inspired by the controversial Step Bandera.

Putin replied that his evaluation about what is happening in Ukraine coincides with his own vision on the situation and assured by his support for making films.

Steven Seagal also participated in the Victorian Day parade

The American actor Steven Seagal, another supporter of Russia whom Putin appointed as a special representative of the Moscow Ministry for Humanitarian Relations with the United States, also participated in the military parade.

Seagal said in a propaganda documentary broadcast in October last year in occupied Ukrainian territories that he is ready to fight and “to die for my president”, Putin.

The 73-year-old actor has repeatedly praised Russia since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine and has been one of the few Western “celebrities” who participated in the inauguration of the fifth term of Putin, in May 2024.

In August 2018 Russia named Seagal Special representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow, with the role of “strengthening” the humanitarian links between the US and Russia, after two years before the American actor received a Russian passport from Vladimir Putin.
