The meeting in Switzerland between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Romanian time, Reuters reports.
“The President of Ukraine arrived in Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum and meet with President Trump,” Zelensky's spokesman, Serghii Nikiforov, said in a statement.
According to him, Zelenski will meet with Donald Trump at 1:00 p.m. local time (2:00 p.m. Romanian time), and later he will give a speech at the Davos Economic Forum at 2:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. Romanian time).
Earlier on Thursday, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said there had been “significant progress” in Ukraine peace talks and that negotiations had come down to a single issue.
“If both sides want to solve this problem, we will solve it,” Witkoff said at the World Economic Forum in Davos. “I think we've made a lot of progress,” he added.
Earlier this week, Zelensky said he would not attend the annual World Economic Forum in Davos and would remain in Kiev to focus on the energy crisis in Ukraine, where Russian airstrikes on electrical infrastructure have left large areas of the capital and other regions without power.
The Ukrainian leader said he would travel to Davos only if there was an opportunity to sign an agreement with Trump on resolving the war, which would include security guarantees and funding for Ukraine's post-war reconstruction. On Wednesday, Trump announced he would meet Zelenskiy in Davos, adding that a deal was “pretty close.”
