In the first words that Leon XIV directed to tens of thousands of faithful, the Pope said “Let peace be with you all. The most expensive brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the Risen Christ, a good shepherd who gave his life for God's flock. I would also like this greeting of the room to reach our hearts, to reach your families, to all people, wherever they are to all nations, to the whole earth“.
“Let peace be with you. This is the peace of the Risen Christ, a defenseless room and one that disarms, humble and persistent. He comes from God who loves us all, unconditionally” – said Leon XIV.
“We still hear in our ears a weak, but always the brave voice of Pope Francis, who blessed the Rome of the Pope, who blessed Rome, gave his blessing to the whole world of this morning on the day of the resurrection of the Lord” – he said emphasizing that “God loves us all and evil will not prevail. We are all in the hands of God and therefore without fear, united, hand in hand with God and between us we go forward“.
“We are the disciples of Christ. Christ goes before us. The world needs His light. Humanity needs him as a bridge, that God and His love will reach her. Help us and you, and build each other bridges through dialogue, meeting – uniting everyone to be one people, always in peace,” always in peace ” – asked the Pope.
“Thank you to Pope Francis,” he said.
“I want to,” he noted, “thank all the confreres to the cardinals who chose me to be the successor of Saint Peter and follow you as a united church, always looking for peace, justice, always striving to work as faithful to Jesus Christ men and women, without fear to preach the Gospel, to be missionaries.”

The Pope directed a special greeting to the Church in Rome.
“Together, we must strive to be a missionary church, a church that builds dialogue bridges, always open to take this square with open arms; Open to everyone who needs our love, our presence, dialogue” – said Leon XIV.
The conclave with the participation of a record number of 133 electors began on Wednesday and lasted the day.
