DNA searches at Elcen Bucharest, prosecutors accuse a bribe of this year's bribery

DNA prosecutors are carrying out searches on the headquarters of Electral Central Bucharest (ELCEN) on Tuesday, informed the state company related to the Ministry of Energy. Judicial sources told Hotnews that eight searches, at the ELCEN headquarters, at the homes of natural persons and at work points of some companies.
The imputed facts are taking and giving bribes, in 2025, according to the sources cited.
Elcen, the company that provides district heating in the Capital, did not give details of what the prosecutors are looking for, just saying that they asked for documents and information.
“We mention that the conduct of these procedures does not in any way affect the continuity of the activity of ELCEN and ensuring the production of electric and thermal energy for consumers in Bucharest and for the national energy system,” the ELCEN statement said.
“The management of the company reaffirms its commitment to compliance with the law and transparency in the activity carried out. The requests of the state institutions are treated with maximum seriousness and responsibility,” says the state company.
Elcen has as general director Claudiu Crețu from August 2023, when he practically returned to the leadership of Elcen, after during July 2017-June 2021 he was a special administrator of the company. Between 2021 and 2023 Claudiu Crețu held the position of general director of the Termoenergetica Bucharest – the operator of the transport and distribution system of the thermal agent in Bucharest.
ELCEN is the main supplier of thermal agent for the heating system in Bucharest (90%). The company also provides 5.3% of the electricity produced at national level.
