Port of Gdynia informs that “Khatanga” tanker is fully prepared to leave the port


“Khatanga tanker is fully prepared to leave the port. All technical and environmental activities have been completed, and the fuel fluids located on the unit have been completely removed. The ship was classified as waste in accordance with the current regulations of the European Union” – said the spokeswoman for the PMPG Kalina Gierblińska.
She noted that the procedure of removing the unit and transporting it to the shipyard in Denmark, having EU certification for utilization of this type of waste, “is a multi -stage process and requires international cooperation“.
“Currently, the Port of Gdynia is waiting for the necessary documentation from the Danish equivalent of the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection – Miljostyrelsen (Danish Environmental Protection Agency), subject to the Danish Ministry of the Environment. Without these documents” – said Gierblińska.
Pursuant to the ordinance of the Maritime Office in Gdynia of February 5 this year, the deadline set for removal of the unit expires on Monday, May 5.
“Port of Gdynia and the Maritime Office in Gdynia, however, remain in full operational readiness, and the delay results only from the waiting for the documentation of the Danish side. According to the assurances of institutions involved in this process, the documents will be forwarded to the Polish side as soon as possible” – said the representative of the port of Gdynia.
She also noted that all activities are conducted in close cooperation and the full agreement of the Maritime Board of the Port of Gdynia and the Maritime Office in Gdynia.

The Gdynia magistrate on its website said that the “Khatanga” tank is over 150 meters long, 26 meters wide and weighs over 15,000. tone. Was used to transport crude oil and its derivatives.
From 2017, he has moored at the port of Gdynia, where he was detained when he did not undergo technical control. The ship was to undergo renovation and sail away, but it did not happen.
