Fraudsters are stealing money from Krasnoyarsk residents through a parental control app

Fraudsters have created a fake parental control app that gives them full access to the victim's phone and allows them to steal money. TASS writes about the new fraud scheme.
Scammers call parents of schoolchildren on behalf of the bank's security service and report that someone is trying to hack their child's phone. The attackers convince adults to urgently install parental control software to stop the attack, and then send them a link to a malicious application. It allows criminals to download data from the user’s device, intercept access to all programs, including mobile banking, and steal savings.
In addition, using malware, scammers track the location of the device and receive audio and video broadcasts from the microphone and cameras. Criminals can use this data later in other criminal schemes. After installation, the application is hidden, and the owner of the gadget cannot remove it on his own. The device can only be cleaned at a service center.
“If bank employees contact you, ask for some information or convince you to follow a link, stop the conversation immediately. Call the hotline yourself – you will find its number on the back of the card or on the bank’s official website,” reads the information on the “Financial Culture” portal of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
Let us remind you that earlier in Achinsk, police officers returned 305 thousand rubles to an 86-year-old woman who became a victim of telephone scammers.
