In his opinion, the most important conversations were not taking place at main sessions, such as the Peace Council, but behind the scenes and at meetings of business and political leaders. “What we saw this year in Davos is the return of real politics at the highest level, but also many discussions that may be of key importance for Poland,” Standerski emphasized.
Zuzanna Dąbrowska, deputy editor-in-chief of PAP, said that this year's event was dominated by politics. In turn, THINKTANK's chief economist, Lidia Adamska, drew attention to the speech of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who spoke about the end of the rules-based world order and the need for medium-sized countries, such as Canada, to create new alliances. “The economic and political map of the world is changing, and this picture is full of uncertainty and question marks,” Adamska noted.
Polish economy in Davos
Representatives of Polish business emphasized that Poland, as one of the 20 largest economies in the world, should be more bold in marking its presence on global forums. Katarzyna Przewęzikowska from the Żabka Group noted that Polish companies still have doubts whether Davos is the right place for them, even though their presence there is crucial for the implementation of international ambitions. “At the Leaders Forum Powered by Poland, Polish business was represented from A to Ż,” she added.
Wojciech Murawski from Autopay pointed out that Poland's current position as the 20th economy in the world should not be treated as an ultimate goal, but as a starting point for further development. A similar position was taken by Katarzyna Dubno from Adamed Pharma, who announced the purchase of a factory in Spain from the global player Sanofi. This investment is intended to enable the company's expansion into European and South American markets.
Geopolitics and economy – main topics of Davos
During the forum, issues of the global economy and geopolitical challenges were also discussed. Adamska drew attention to the decline in confidence in American bonds, which may affect the position of the dollar and trigger new trade wars. The economist also emphasized the European Union's success in becoming independent from Russian gas, whose share in the European market has fallen from over 50%. up to 12 percent However, she warned that Europe may become too dependent on gas from the US, which could account for as much as 80 percent by 2030. imported LNG.
