Delegates participating in the Valencia Congress of the European People's Party (PPE) re-elected the German Manfred Weber on Tuesday as president of the Pan-European formation, indicates a statement posted on the PPE website.
Manfred Weber obtained the second term of president of the PPE with 502 of the 563 valid votes, notes Agerpres.
He proposed Dolors Montserrat for the position of Secretary General of the EPP.
During the discourse in front of the PPE delegates, Manfred Weber stressed that “the essential feature of the PPE's success story in the last three years was the ability of this European party to listen, unify and respect its promises.”
“The growing power of the EPP in the European Council proves this. Today, 13 of the 27 heads of state or government of the European Council come from our political family,” Weber said in his intervention.
“We enter a new historical phase. In order to win this struggle, we must provide not only good deeds and concepts, but also a desire for the future, hope and enthusiasm. As a European folk party, we must write a new center-right, general, in the next two years,” the PPE leader stressed.
