Grindeanu threatens to reduce the allowance after the scandal in Parliament

Sorin Grindeanu, PSD leader and president of the Chamber of Deputies, threatened with “sanctions” the parliamentarians who disrupted the meeting in which the plenary approved the decision of the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT) to approve the US request regarding the location in Romania of American refueling planes, monitoring equipment and satellite communication equipment.

In press statements made in Parliament after the plenary session, the head of the Chamber stated that he is “a man who tries to give a voice to all groups”, but decided to stop the debate “when things degenerated”.

“This does not mean that those who violated the regulation will remain unpunished, because there are various punishments in the regulation that I have no hesitation in applying, including the reduction of the allowance and all the things you know. Such behavior, from my point of view, has no place”, continued Sorin Grindeanu.

What he said about the vote in Parliament

The PSD leader welcomed the Parliament's decision to approve the CSAT proposal.

“The fact that there are noisy parliamentarians, the fact that there are parliamentarians who oppose, after all, this approach depends on the faith of each one of them. I am glad that this act was adopted, that it was a large majority and that Romania proved, through this decision and through this vote, that it wants to strengthen the strategic partnership with the United States and that it is a solid partner of the United States of America”, added Sorin Grindeanu.

Asked what guarantees the Romanians receive that the bases in our country will not be used to strike Iran, he answered: “All things related to military actions will be carried out according to the approved requests, according to the information you know we have and which were sent to the Parliament.”

“There are moments in the history of every state when we have to make certain decisions, and today the Parliament made this decision,” the PSD leader continued.

“This is something I think we should ask for”

Sorin Grindeanu was asked if, in the future, the decision taken today in Bucharest could be used in negotiations with the USA to increase the American military presence in Romania.

“That's how I would discuss things, it's true. You know, I saw various positions earlier today by some who said, sir, we're doing this, but let's get us back into the Visa Waiver and so on. It doesn't seem to me that things can be looked at from that perspective, but they can be looked at from another perspective, which has to do with an increased presence of the United States, military capabilities, and the military capabilities of the United States in Romania”, replied Grindeanu.

“That, yes, I could agree with that, as long as these bases are used and show their usefulness. This is something that I think we should demand,” the PSD leader also declared.
