Romania, still in the first place in the EU at the number of dead in road accidents

The number of people in the European Union deceased in road accidents decreased by 1.3% in 2023, compared to 2022, and the highest death rate due to road accidents was registered in Romania and Bulgaria (both by 81 victims per million inhabitants), the data published by the European Statistical Office – Eurostat, according to Agerpres.
In 2023, there were 20,380 deaths in the EU following road accidents, compared to 18,830 in 2020, the lower number being attributed to the traffic restrictions during the pandemic period.
Although the number of deaths increased in 2021 and 2022, it did not return to the level before the pandemic.
On average, there were 46 victims of road traffic to one million inhabitants in the EU.
In 2023, the highest rate of deaths following road accidents was registered in Romania and Bulgaria (both with 81 deaths per million inhabitants) and Latvia (75), and the lowest in Sweden (22), Denmark (27) and Malta (30).
