The western bypass of Szczecin and the tunnel under the Oder. Germans write about the Polish project

A 5 km long tunnel under the Oder, which when completed will be the longest in Poland, is part of the project. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) announced contractors of three sections of the S6 route approximately 50 km long. The new expressway will complement the Szczecin bypass and significantly improve the connection of the entire Szczecin metropolitan area with the Polish expressway network, writes the German portal nordkurier.de.
The portal points out that the new road is particularly important for Police and the chemical plants located there. Currently, the distance from the partner city of Pasewalk to the motorway junction near Goleniów on the other side of the Oder is almost 60 km. Thanks to the new bypass and tunnel, this distance would be shortened to 23 km. The bypass could also be interesting for residents of the Uecker-Randow region, who would no longer have to travel such a long way to, for example, the Polish Baltic coast.

It will probably take a few more years before the first cars drive through the bypass and tunnel. According to the General Directorate, the sections from Kołbaskowo on the A11 near the Pomellen border crossing to Dołujów on the Löcknitz-Stettin line (13.6 km) and from there to Police (11.9 km) are to be completed by 2029.

The section from Police to Goleniów (23.4 km), along with the tunnel under the Oder, is to be completed by 2033. According to the plans, the road in the tunnel will run at a depth of up to 45 m in two two-lane tubes. The current cost of the entire project is estimated at approximately PLN 8 billion.
