Former President Traian Basescu wrote on Facebook on Wednesday that Daniel Funeriu is a “real alternative” in the presidential elections of May 2025. Funeriu was the counselor of Basescu 12 years ago and held the position of Minister of Education in the Boc Government.

Basescu commented on Facebook the current list of candidates enrolled in the electoral race, notes News.ro.

“None of the candidates who qualified in the second round in the November 2024 elections no longer apply or is no longer supported to run for the elections of May 2025. Interesting. Instead, they apply to both USL leaders who, in 2012, under the command of Varan (Dan Voiculescu, no), have destroyed in two days the Romanian state, we will not have the Romanian state. Do you succeed now? ”Wrote the former head of state.

Subsequently, in the comment section, a user transmitted that he is convinced that more and more voters will take into account Daniel Funeriu as a voting option.

Traian Basescu replied: “It is a real alternative”.

Daniel Funeriu was Minister of Education in the PDL government, between December 2009 and February 2012, when Prime Minister Emil Boc resigned as a result of road protests.

Later, Funeriu was appointed presidential adviser by Traian Basescu. In the summer of 2014, Daniel Funeriu candidate for the head of the PMP, a party created by Traian Basescu at the end of the mandate, but the former minister was defeated by Elena Udrea.
