At a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, the governor Mikhail Kotyukov presented the results and work plans of a public organization, as well as development projects in the near future.

One of the largest is the creation in the regional center of the Siberian District Headquarters, which will unite 10 subjects of the Siberian Federal District and will become the outpost of the RGO in the east of the country. It will be placed in a historical building on Karl Marx Street, 42.
As explained by the chairman of the regional department of the RGO, Igor Spiridenko, the implementation of this project will strengthen the position and increase the potential of the RGO for the Urals, increase the involvement of local residents in the historical, patriotic, environmental, educational and scientific activities of society.
“The headquarters will also become a launching pad for large public events and expeditions of the Russian State Register. For this, a complex of buildings is modernized, which is now occupied by the regional branch of the RGO in the center of Krasnoyarsk. In particular, this year it is supposed to begin the restoration of the cultural heritage object “House where the Institute of Physics began to work under the leadership of Kirensky Leonid Vasilyevich in 1957. After the work is completed, a scientific library, a lectureur, mediastudia, exhibition spaces, the laboratory class of the Department of Geography of the Siberian Figure and more will be placed here. The dilapidated buildings in the courtyard will be demolished, and in their place there will be a square of prominent RGO figures in Siberia, which will be available to the townspeople, ”the government said.
Among other significant projects of the RGO: the opening in the Yermakovsky district on the basis of the year-round camp “Ermak” of the museum of nomadic culture in the open air and the creation of the Molokov island in Krasnoyarsk in Krasnoyarsk Park Museum of the development of the North.
The head of the region noted that the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society is steadily among the strongest in the country. So, according to the results of 2023, it took first place in the ranking of regional branches of the Russian State Register. “The company is conducting not only expeditionary work, but also engaged in great educational activities, the popularization of our heritage, also develops new tourist routes. I believe that the initiatives of the RGO, awakening patriotism, interest in our nature and heritage, are very necessary today, ”said Mikhail Kotyukov.
It should be noted that in 2025 the Russian Geographical Society celebrates the 180th anniversary of the formation, and the regional branch of the RGO is prepared for the 125th anniversary, which will be held in 2026. In total, 12 local departments are operating in the Krasnoyarsk Territory: in Kansk, Minusinsk, Norilsk, Taimyr, in Turukhansk, Yeniseisk, Khatang, Zheleznogorsk, Evenkia, Zelenogorsk, Achinsk and Igarch.
