A helicopter has collapsed in the Hudson River in the United States. There was also a child on board. At least one person died, reports the American press.
UPDATE In a Twitter post, the mayor of New York, Eric Adams, qualified the accident as “tearing and tragic.”
According to him, New York Fire and Police departments came to support New Jersey crews.
The mayor advised the inhabitants to avoid the area.
UPDATE The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that the collapsed helicopter is a Bell 206. The agency cannot confirm how many people were on board the aircraft, according to BBC News.
FAA says it will carry out an investigation led by the National Transportation Safety Board, which will also provide additional updates.
The initial news
At least five people were aboard the helicopter, including three children and two adults, reports CBS News, the US BBC partner, noting that a person has been declared dead.
At least two people were removed from the water, CBS sources say, saying that one of them is a child.
