The Minister of Economy, Bogdan Ivan, who is on Saturday in Praid, says that the saline situation is complicated, and at a first evaluation it takes 130 million lei and about four months to completely deviate the course of the Corund stream, which flooded the saline.
He said that, following a first evaluation made by the technical teams, it would take about 130 million lei to deviate the course of the Corund stream and to extract the underground water with high capacity pumps.

“At the first evaluation made by my colleagues, there would be necessary, for Salrom somewhere about 130 million lei to deviate the course of this stream, to use some high capacity pumps and to take the water from the underground and after that to bring to the original state and to strengthen the walls of this gallery,” said Bogdan Ivan “.
Ivan said that on June 3, experts from Babeș-Bolyai University and other European specialists will arrive to start the first explorations, including with underwater drones equipped with advanced scanning systems. “These drones will analyze the salinity of the water and how the walls are affected,” said the minister.
“After we have these studies, after we remove the water, to be in the situation in which to start strengthening the walls without endangering the lives of the workers there,” said the Minister of Economy.
Also, the relevant minister mentioned that there are also plans for the restoration of the tourist area, estimating an additional cost of about 70 million lei for Salina Praid to become one of the “most beautiful tourist attractions in Europe”.
“Chances are good”
“Now we are working on preparing an evaluation on everything that means reorganization and refurbishment of the praid saline for the access of tourists and we intend to be one of the most beautiful tourist attractions of Europe. (…) We estimate an amount of about 70 million lei, plus-minus, to play this miracle of nature,” said Salina Praid. “
Asked if Salina could be saved, Bogdan Ivan said the chances are good, according to the discussions with the specialists. “I am not a specialist in this subject, but I trust that with Mr. Dobrea and the experts who will come on June 3, we will be able to have a clear evaluation and we will be able to say when Salina Praid can be recovered,” he said.
He also spoke about the economic impact of the closing of the saline on the locality and said that, through the support mechanism thought by the Government, the workers will be paid, and the pensions and hotels that have undergone losses will be granted.
“We are with them and we are interested in finding the solution by which we will reopen this mine and make it more beautiful than it was before,” said Bogdan Ivan.
