Bartosz Treder, Onet: Donald Trump decided that China showed him a lack of respect because of lack of negotiations. I get the impression that now it is about honor, not equalizing trade deficits or improving the economic situation.
Prof. Radosław Rybkowski: The problem with Donald Trump is the one that has already been seen during the first term that it is a narcissistic personality. He draws attention primarily to himself, not the United States and the real problems of its citizens. He reads the lack of reaction he expected from China as a personal injury and makes a decision.
Let's consider whether the state, which is one of the largest economic powers in the world, should act based on the fact that their president felt offended? I don't think so. It is not said that tomorrow he will not stand up and will not find that he is restoring the duties back. In this intensity of uncertainty and unpredictability of movements of the main trading partner, you cannot act and function in the global economy. You can't predict what will happen next week. In such conditions, the global economy cannot work.
Where did the order of a 90-day break in the use of increased duties for other countries?
At one of the meetings, Trump said that everyone was calling him after applying the duties and trying to negotiate. He felt that he was noticed on the international arena and let go. This is the worst from the perspective of political and economic relations that it is not known why the US administration stated that it was forgiving with the duties. If they thought it would bring losses for the American economy, we would see a rational reason. But no, they work because Donald Trump woke up and said that we were letting go today.
The 90 days limit in this case also seems uncertain.
Exactly, why not 45 days, 60 or a month? Even if negotiations regarding trade were not done, we would know that something can be determined. This is not said that in 90 days something will be done. Donald Trump said that in 24 hours it would be possible to arrange peace in Ukraine. Almost three months have passed and Russia is still attacking. The US president thinks that he can say everything, because Congress and Republicans allow it.

They said that they introduce higher retaliation duties to goods imported from the USA at 84 percent, which is really a deadly amount in customs tariffs. They know they can't let go, regardless of what Donald Trump declares. They are aware that he started the trade war and cannot give way.

The latest duties announced by Donald Trump and the previous ones announced by China are deadly heights. They undermine the sense of trade between the US and China. Some commentators indicate that the next rally makes no difference. This is the saying: “Yes, we declared a trade war and that's it.” This is the basic problem that it is not said that Donald Trump will not change his mind in a few days.
Earlier, the Chinese ministry issued a message for their citizens to think twice before traveling to the USA. What signal did they want to send this?
This does not only apply to the Chinese side, because the Germans and the French also reported. There is information about tourists who were heading to the USA and were not allowed because they spoke negatively about Donald Trump's policy. A warning for China citizens, so that they fail to visit the USA, is most in place.
If such stories happen to citizens of NATO countries who are US allies, then tourists from China can have more unpleasant meetings when they attempt to cross the border, i.e. at the airport, when they undergo passport check -in.
