The total expenses of Russians for the design of the Schengen visas for the period from 2022 to 2024 amounted to 11.2 billion rubles, calculated Vedomosti with reference to the European Commission.
According to the publication, for 2022-2024, Russian citizens “overpaid” 5.8 billion rubles “at least” for Schengen visas. In 2023, the Russians spent about 3.9 billion rubles on Schengen visas, in 2024 this figure amounted to 5 billion rubles. At the same time, the number of visas issued increased by 21 % year by year – up to 542 thousand.
This is 7.5 times less than in the “additional times” – in 2019, Schengen visas received more than 4 million Russians. In 2024, the most visas to Russian citizens were issued: Italy (150 thousand), France (120 thousand), Spain (110 thousand), Greece (60 thousand) and Hungary (23 thousand).
Experts surveyed by Vedomosti confirmed that the Russians are “overpaying” for the design of the Schengen visas more than two times. For example, as of 2025, the cost of a visa to Greece reaches 11 thousand rubles-at the beginning of 2022 it cost Russians about 5,000 rubles.
