At least 98 people were killed and over 150 were injured after the roof of a nightclub crashed into Santo Domingo, The capital of the Dominican Republic, on Monday night to Tuesday, reports the BBC.

Among the victims were a provincial governor and the former Dominican baseball player Octavio Del, who played 15 seasons in the Major League Baseball. Del, 51 years old, died on the way to the hospital after being taken out of the rubble.

The incident spent in the early hours of Tuesday, at a concert held by the popular singer by Merengue Rubby Pérez at the Jet Set nightclub. The singer is among those trapped.

Hundreds of people were inside the location and about 400 rescuers are still looking for survivors under the rubble.

In a video recording made with your mobile phone and distributed on social networks, you can see a man who sits next to the stage saying “something fell from the ceiling”, while it looks towards the roof.

In registration, singer Rubby Pérez also seems to look at the area indicated by the man.

In less than 30 seconds, there is a noise, and a woman is heard shouting “father, what happened to you?”.

One of the members of Rubby Pérez's band told the local press that the club was full when the collapse was “around 1 in the morning”.

“I thought it was an earthquake,” said the musician.

The director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), Juan Manuel Méndez, said he hopes that many of those buried under the collapsed roof are still alive.

Jet Set is a popular nightclub in Santo Domingo who regularly hosts dance music concerts on Monday evenings. Politicians, athletes and other prominent figures were present.

Dominican President Luis Abinader moved to the scene on Tuesday morning and decreed three days of national mourning in memory of the victims of the tragedy.
