On Wednesday, Donald Trump surprised everyone, announcing another increase in customs duties to goods from China, while suspending duties' increases to all other countries for a period of 90 days. American duties on Chinese goods are now to be 125 percent.
– Trump's goal is also the greatest possible swinging of the international trade ecosystem. By acting in this way, he strengthens the image of an unpredictable person who can do absolutely anything – notes Radosław Pyffel.
The expert indicates that “this is a great difficulty for both the Union, which makes decisions after multilateral consultations, but also for China.” – Nobody knows what Trump will do. On the other hand, this is his biggest disadvantage. Many countries can get tired of this unpredictability quite quickly – he states.
– It looks like a very spectacular variety of commercial wars awaits us. A real collision of Chinese cool Yin with hot and unpredictable Trumpy Yang. This will be a huge challenge for Europe and Poland, for which a real test is coming, because they will have to be implemented, developed and prepared scenarios for another often surprising Trump movements and China's reactions – says Pyffel.
– So the verification is coming and whoever has prepared well will gain, and who has not prepared, it will act reactively and may pay a very high price for it – he comments.
