On January 18, the residents of Forgerons Street were awakened by a buzz, as if something very difficult had been moved. One of them looked out. He saw a maid in front of the bookstore and then called the police.
He noticed a Peugeot with numbers from France parked nearby and a safe in front of the front door, which had been broken, according to the Belgian press.
The police entered the store and found that everything from the cash register was stolen. At the same time, a crate containing drinks was partially destroyed.
Two men dressed in black were still in the store and tried to run through the back. They were blocked by the police. They were identified as a Moldovan citizen and the other Romanian.
Although the shop's surveillance cameras had been sabotaged, the investigators were able to use the road cameras to reconstruct the events. The investigation showed that the glass door of the bookstore was forced with a ramp, and the thieves used a maid to transport the safe. Interrogated by the court, the two men confessed the robbery. Both were under the influence of cocaine at the time of offenses and risked up to three years in prison.
Their lawyers pleaded for a gentle sentence. The two men have no criminal record, although one of them is known for eleven acts of theft.
