The disturbing appeal of a Romanian in the diaspora before the decisive tour: “Do not choose with hatred, do not vote with a desire for revenge”

On the threshold of the decisive tour of the presidential elections, a Romanian established for years in the diaspora launches a disturbing call to those left at home: “I know many of you, like me, are disappointed. That the November elections were canceled. That we feel we are lied to and ignored. But please: don't choose with hatred, do not vote with the desire for revenge”The testimony of Nadia is the echo of a generation that has experienced communism and transition and is now fearing that Romania risks slipping back into the illusion of a providential savior.

We play the full message transmitted to the editorial Adevărul:
“Dear Romanian,
I am a Romanian from the diaspora and I feel the need to spread my thoughts at a time when Romania seems more divided than ever. I write to you, to those who, like me, have truly lived two worlds: pressing communism and heavy transition to democracy. I led a honestly worked life, with difficulties, but also with hope. I am neither analyst nor politician – just a man who does not want to shut up.
I noticed, unfortunately, as the Romanian politics was included by a dangerous wave of light promises and emotional messages. Import styles from other parts of the world are imported, where it is promised that wars can be stopped in “24 hours”, that the nations are healed by a single leader, as if reality would fold on the slogans. But those who say these things have never fought on the front. They didn't feel fear, cold or hunger. I don't know what the real sacrifice means.
George Simion is 38 years old. I wish him success, honestly. If he succeeds in what has not been achieved in 35 years, without blaming “heavy inheritance”, then we will respect it. Maybe we will go home – in that Romania in which we have always dreamed of living. But if this promise goes out like the others, then I wonder with sadness: do we ever return home?
I don't think anyone wants my good more than I want it. Therefore, I can no longer delegate my dream to anyone just because he “speaks well”. I want facts. I want to feel represented by someone who lived what I lived. I cannot be convinced by someone who knew communism, who was in line, who lived with fear and shame for his own thoughts. No one can be raised in freedom to fully understand the loss of freedom.
In the diaspora, we have the freedom to speak, to vote, to criticize. Not perfect, but real. Here, we are treated as citizens. There we were called “with the people, for the people”. But where was the people, in fact?
And there's something else: religion. I see her more and more present in campaigns, speeches, promises. If we are still with the Lord, then let's abolish the political class and teach the power of the Church. Bitter irony, yes. But we must say clearly: when faith is used as a political tool, it is no longer about God. It's about manipulation.
I know many of you, like me, are disappointed. That the November elections were canceled. That we feel we are lied to and ignored. But please: Don't choose with hatred, do not vote with a desire for revenge. The message must be transmitted clearly – but by reason, not by anger. Romania can only be rebuilt in wisdom, not on fellowship.
Dear Romanian, from the country or everywhere, I urge you to think clearly. Let's choose our future with our heads. Let's ask for facts, not talking. Because, in the end, Romania will not change because we voted for someone – but because we will change each day every day.
With respect and hope,
