The director of the NSA, the US National Security Agency, Timothy Haugh, was dismissed on Thursday, Washington Post, citing anonymity -reserve officials, reports Reuters.
Timothy Haugh, who is also the head of the US Cyber Command, was dismissed with his deputy at NSA, Wendy Noble, according to Washington Post.
The reasons why General Timothy Haugh are not known and his deputy were dismissed.
Noble was redistributed to a post within the Defense Subsecretary Bureau for information within the Pentagon, the sources of the American newspaper said. NSA is part of the US Defense Department.
The deputy of the US Cyber Command, William Hartmann, was appointed interim director of the NSA, and Sheila Thomas, who was executive director at the NSA, was appointed interim deputy.
The democratic congressmen criticized the Trump administration in relation to these dismissals.
“I met General Haugh to be an honest and direct leader, who respected the law and put national security in the first place-I am afraid that these are exactly the qualities that can lead to his dismissal in this administration,” said the representative of Jim Himes in Connecticut, the most important democrat in the Information Commission of the Chamber of Representatives.
For his part, Senator Mark Warner, the Democratic Vice -President of the Senate Committee, qualified for Haugh's removal as a “narcotic”.
“At a time when the United States is experiencing unprecedented cyber threats, as the Salt Typhoon's cyber attack so clearly emphasized, how does its dismissal makes Americans safer?” Warner said.
Donald Trump, since taking over the mandate on January 20, fired several top officials from American agencies and installed the people who were loyal to him.
Last month, Elon Musk, who leads the Department for Government Efficiency (Doge), visited the National Security Agency to meet Haugh. This visit took place about a week after Musk noted on his Social Media X platform that “NSA needs a review.”
The NSA is one of the most important information agencies in the United States and uses high -level specialized technologies and systems to collect and analyze information. The US Cyber Command is carrying out offensive and defensive operations and monitors the defense department networks.
