The regulation authorizes the government to issue a series of decrees regulating the principles of using artificial intelligence and is appointed by a special committee coordinating the activity of various institutions, entities and foundations operating in the digital and AI innovation sector.
The Giorgia Meloni government, which has appeared with the legislative initiative in the AI case, pointed out that transparent and safe rules are introduced in which the center is man. Innovation, cyber security and privacy protection were mentioned as priorities of new legal regulations.
The principle was also introduced that children under 14 years of age to AI tools will require parents' consent.
The National Supervision Offices of AI were established by the Italian Digital Agency and the Cybersecurity Agency.
The new regulations also introduce sentences from one to 5 years in prison for illegal spreading of offensive and false content, generated by artificial intelligence, such as Deepfake.
One of the areas in which, under the new regulations, it will be possible to use AI, is healthcare. Its use will be allowed at the stage of making a diagnosis, but the final decision will always belong to doctors.
The obligation to inform about the use of artificial intelligence in them was also imposed.
