Johnson and Stubb entered into a skirmish because of Ukraine

The conference discussed ways to end the war in Ukraine. Stubb made one of the main speeches at the event immediately after the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. He noted that Finland plays the role of support and intermediary in dialogue ties in the background.

Johnson asked him from the audience why frozen Russian assets in the amount of € 300 billion were not unlocked and used for the good of Ukraine. Stubb replied that Russian assets should be used to restore Ukraine or military reparations, but the problem is that some EU countries, especially Belgium, are afraid of the legal consequences.

Johnson also asked why the coalition did not send his troops to the safe regions of Ukraine now, to which Stubb replied that this should be a restraint tool for the post -war period.

“I do not want to say this in your presence, but one of the best security guarantees for Ukraine would be EU membership,” the president of Finland said. According to the publication, he probably meant the role of Johnson as one of the main architects of Brexit – the release of Great Britain from the EU. He replied: “You also took a lot of time for you.”

To this, the former Prime Minister of Great Britain replied: “You also needed a lot of time to get to that.” The publication notes that after the Second World War, the Soviet Union had a significant impact on the foreign policy of Finland.

Stubb in response said that this should never happen to Ukraine.
