Ukrainian secret services estimate that the war could end in 2026 but depends on the West

The war triggered by Russia against Ukraine could end until the end of 2026, but this depends on the consolidation of sanctions and a more consistent support of the West for Kiev, said Andrii Iusov, a representative of the Ukrainian military secret services.

“There are external and internal indicators, the economic situation in Russia, its losses, but the battlefield is the one that really defines reality“, Iusov said in an interview with Novini, quoted by The New Voice of Ukraine.

He explained that the war could be concluded in the next two years if the economic pressure on Russia intensifies, if Ukraine receives more financial and military support from the West and if Kiev's international partners adopt a firmer position.

“Analyzing all these factors, certain conclusions can be drawn. But the truth remains: Ukraine does everything possible, and even the impossible, to end this conflict as soon as possible.”Iusov stressed.

Threat of drones

According to him, Russia produces about 2,700 shahed drones monthly and so-called “Drone-Momeal”. Although the latter cause a few damage, they significantly complicate the anti -aircraft defense of Ukraine.

Trump's attempts to negotiate peace

On August 22, The Wall Street Journal reported that US President Donald Trump's efforts to negotiate a peace agreement stagnated after only four days. Political publication wrote that Trump believes that Ukraine will eventually be forced to accept an agreement “Mostly in the terms of Russia” to conclude the war.

The same day Trump said he would decide “Within two weeks” What steps will he take further in his mediation attempts: “It will be a very important decision – massive sanctions, or massive ratesor both, or nothing, and we say, this is your war. “

He also stated that he would be “interesting to see” if Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski and Russian leader Vladimir Putin will ever have direct discussions. Trump even suggested, on August 20, that a bilateral meeting is in preparation.

Moscow and Kiev's reactions

The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said that Moscow is “Pfound for any format ”, but insisted that “Preparations are needed.”

Instead, Zelenski said that Russia does not want to conclude the war and avoids direct negotiations at the leader level, sending only signals meant to delay the process.

Later, in an interview for NBC News, Lavrov said that Vladimir Putin would meet Zelenski only if there was already a concrete plan for a summit.
