Siyyarto stated that Hungary would not allow “push Ukraine” in the EU


Siyyarto complained about the support of Kyiv, supposedly the European commission “at the current meeting practically acted as a commission in Ukraine, fully representing the interests of Ukraine, unlike the interests of member states.”

According to the Hungarian Foreign Minister, if the EU really wanted to help in the issue of the fate of the Hungarian community in the Transcarpathian region, then “could easily achieve Ukrainians of the resumption of the 2015 situation,” when “the Hungarians in Transcarpath still had every right to use their native language in education, culture and public administration.”

Siyyarto said that Hungary would not allow “pushing Ukraine to the EU” because it would allegedly “destroy” Hungarian farmers, the food security of Hungary and “allow the Ukrainian mafia to get into Hungary.”

“That's why we will not allow you to open the content part of the negotiation negotiations, that is, specific sections of negotiations,” the Hungarian minister explained.

Context

The procedure for joining the EU involves screening-an assessment of the compliance of the national legislation of the Candidate Law of the EU. The process includes 35 negotiation sections grouped into six clusters. Clusters open alternately, given the progress in their fulfillment by the Candidate.

In June 2023, Ukraine, together with Moldova, acquired the status of a candidate for membership in the EU.

On June 25, 2024, the European Union officially began negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine on joining the EU.

On April 29, 2025, the European Commissioner for the expansion of Marta KOSD reported that the EU was considering the possibility of continuing the process of the entry of Moldova, separating it from Ukraine against the backdrop of the fact that Hungary opposes the accession of Kyiv.

On June 26, the Hungarian government announced the final results of the “referendum” to enter Ukraine into the European Union and stated that 95% of the voters had expressed themselves. According to Prime Minister Viktor Orban, so Hungary allegedly stopped Ukraine's entry into the EU. Orban also stated that Ukraine’s entry into the EU will “draw” Europe into a direct conflict and that no one would seem to agree to this.

On June 27, EC President Ursula von der Lyain said that the European Commission supports the opening of the first cluster of negotiations on the entry of Ukraine to the EU.

On July 3, the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky informed that Ukraine is ready to open the first cluster “Funds” on negotiations to join the European Union and will be ready for other clusters.
