Bacteria in ice cream samples. Sanepid reveals the results of the inspection


The Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Szczecin announced that in the August controls 12 poviats were covered, mainly in the coastal belt. Of the 17 inspected ice cream parlors, the irregularities were found in four.
Małgorzata Kapłan, spokeswoman for the WSEZ in Szczecin, emphasized that though None of the samples detected pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella or Listeria monocytogenesthis presence of Enterobacteriaceae indicates the hygiene problems of devices or errors in the production process.

The inspections carried out in July brought alarming results – in 41 ice cream parlors 205 samples were examined, of which in as many as 100 sanitary standards were exceeded. At that time, the most deficiencies were detected in the Gryfice, Kamieński, Kołobrzeg, Koszalin, Sławno and Świnoujście poviats.

August data show improvementbut – as Małgorzata Kapłan points out – Hygiene of ice cream machines requires constant supervision. During the inspection in August, irregularities were found in 4 out of 17 proven ice cream parlors: 2 in the area Koszaliński, 1 in the poviat Kołobrzeski and 1 in the Świdwin poviat.

As a result of the August inspections, four administrative decisions were issued with rigor of immediate enforceability. The orders included, among others Washing and disinfection of devices, staff training and verification of production and distribution processes. Until the correct results are obtained, entrepreneurs cannot produce or sell ice cream from the challenged devices.

“We do not impose fines on entrepreneurs, but they must perform sanitary recommendations and cover the costs of research that will confirm the effectiveness of repair activities,” explained Małgorzata Kapłan. “A break in the production of ice cream, waiting for again results usually lasts a few days” – she concluded.
