Three students from Moscow were expelled and sanctioned after posting on Tiktok a video in which they dance provocatively near the Cathedral of the Savior of Christ. The case has aroused strong reactions from some Orthodox activists, who filed official complaints.

It all started on June 2, when the Orthodox Movement “Sorok Sorokov” drew attention to the video posted on Tiktok. In the pictures, the three young people appear executing a twerking dance (given from the bottom) “Against the background of the Cathedral of the Savior Christ“According to the publication of the Meduza. The publication also broadcast the video with the three students dancing.

The activists asked their supporters to file complaints to the Student Investigation Committee. A few days later, a professor of the University announced in an internal chat that the incident was discussed in the institution's scientific council.

Expatricular and contradictory sanctions

According to the teacher, young people were expelled and convicted of “11 months of work for correction according to Article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation“(Offending religious feelings).

However, the Moscow police reported that the students did not receive a criminal conviction, but were drawn to administrative liability for minor hooliganism, based on article 20.1 of the Contraventional Code. The information appears in an official response of the Police Directorate of the Central Administrative District, published on the Telegram channel of the “Sorok Sorokov” movement.

Student restraint

The document also shows that the three girls, originally from Moscow, Elektrostal and Astrahan, were detained on June 4. Most likely, the detention was made following the complaints filed by the activists.
