Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan told Antena 3 on Sunday that the second package of measures “will make the public administrations in Romania change their attitude”, the prime minister noting that the country “does not change from Bucharest”, but “changes from each locality”.

The prime minister said that due to the budget deficit “the Romanian state no longer has the financial capacity to distribute so much money to the local authorities”.

“Then we can deliver services at least as good with smaller expenses, because we have examples in Romania many administrative units, county councils, big mayors, mayors of small communes, who with fewer employees, who with less costs provide at least as good as the mayors where the staff is oversized,” continued Ilie Bolojan.

He emphasized the need to encourage performance in administration.

“Unfortunately, until now, the lack of performance has not been sanctioned, the lack of performance has not been discouraged. If you encourage performance, for example, the budget balancing money is directly proportional to the degree of tax collection, then for sure to take the money that helps you to work, you will have to work, first, to get you,

Ilie Bolojan said that the second package of measures “has been discussed these days and will make public administrations change their attitude and have over 3,000 development factors.”

“Because Romania does not change only from Bucharest, it changes from each locality in the country,” explained the prime minister.

What did he say about local taxes

Asked if some of the local taxes and taxes will be caught in this package of measures, Ilie Bolojan said: “In the fiscal component, these things would be included.”

“They will apply, next to January 1, and here the taxes are very likely to increase, on the properties, to the natural persons, not to the legal, because of all the data we have are at a level that does not reflect the value of the property – and then one of the things that will be included in this second package is also the restment of these taxes to the market, which will be the value of the market.
