Sabrina Maneca-Voinea (18 years old) took 4th place in the floor final at the World Championships in Jakarta, with a score of 13.466, identical to that of the bronze medalist, the British Abigail Martin, who, however, had a higher qualification in execution. The Romanian finished the beam final in seventh place. Denisa Golgotă also performed on the floor, who ranked 7th.
The last day of the apparatus finals of the World Championships in Jakarta also reserved the most intense emotions for Romania, with two qualified gymnasts in the fight for medals: Sabrina Voinea to beam and ground, Denisa Golgotă on the ground.
The last women's final in the program of the supreme competition was the floor one. Over time, Romania has collected 23 medals in this apparatus, the most recent in 2014, when Larisa Iordache won the silver, the last title coming in 2001 thanks to Andrea Răducan. And things remained that way.
Sabrina Voinea she's back in competition after her rough moment on beam. Shining on the carpet in the dark pink suit, he opened with a complicated diagonal in an exercise marked by precisely this characteristic, the difficulty. The hesitations in the execution cost her, however, and the final score reflected this, 5.900 difficulty, 7.566 execution and the total, 13.466. On a par with Britain's Abigail Martin, but one place lower, due to the lower qualification from the execution.
Waiting for the grade with her mother, Camelia Voinea, Sabrina had a start when she saw the grade, then disappointment followed when the position appeared, fourth. Same grade but no medal! And how close he was, practically on the same level as Martin, separated only by regulation!
Denisa Golgotă (23 years old), returned to competitions after a five-year break, performed third in the last floor act. European runner-up in 2018 on this apparatus, she modeled her execution on the rhythm of the music. It lacked something on the difficulty side, however, compared to the qualifications. The reduced risk was reflected in the grade received, 4.900, 0.7 lower than in qualifications. 7.333 in execution and a total of 12.233 for the tricolor gymnast.
British Ruby Evans opened the competition for gold, silver and bronze from the floor, the apparatus of strength and difficulty combined with grace. She managed a solid exercise, scored 13.666, exactly the highest score in the qualifications, achieved by Sabrina Voinea! These compatriots, Abigail Martinperforming second, collected a slightly lower score, 13.466.
After Golgotha, the Italian entered the floor carpet Giulia Perotti (16), the 2023 World Apparatus Champion. But she missed a diagonal, falling into her seat, plus other hesitations, all leading to a total of 11.633. Next came two athletes from Japan.
Aiko Sugihara, the new floor world champion
Aiko Sugihara (26 years old), fresh bronze medalist on beam, 10 years after her first participation in an edition of the World Championships. Expressive and confident, she put together an evolution scored with 5.800 in difficulty and 8.033 in execution, total 13.833. One that eventually took her to the ultimate victory, world gold!
Rina Kishi (18 years old), the one who had the second mark in the qualifications, then entered the carpet. A few hesitations plagued her practice, one just before the final picture, affecting her final score of 13.033.

Sabrina Voinea, miss on beam and 7th place
First on the agenda was the battle for honors on the “deck of sighs”, where Sabrina had secured her place with a third result. In the final, however, everything is erased and starts from scratch.
The Romanian performed penultimate, having a complex, high-risk exercise, as she had demonstrated in the qualifications. It was precisely this risk taken that caused him to miss an element, when landing on the beam his left foot slipped past the apparatus. Everything else went smoothly, with just one extra step on the way out.
The fall from the beam, however, brought him an obvious penalty in the execution, 6,733after 7,633 in the qualifications, which was also then one of the lowest qualifications. With a 12.533 (he received a 5.800 on difficulty), he finished the final in seventh place.
Flavia Saraiva (26 years old) opened the last act, she being one of the candidates for the podium, having obtained the same score in the qualifications as the “tricolor”, 13.833. With a precise evolution, balanced in difficulty and artistic elements, it raised the bar high from the start. He received 5.700 in difficulty and 8.200 in execution, final score 13.900.
Immediately, however, Aiko Sugihara (26) produced an even more valuable exercise, gaining tenths more in both grades, but especially in execution, over qualifications. The total, 14,166, immediately propelled her to the top. But for how long?
Another experienced gymnast followed, the Canadian Elizabeth Black (30), the 2022 world beam runner-up, who received 13.600. Then, another generation, Kaylia Nemour from Algeria (18 years old), already a medalist in Jakarta with silver in the parallel bars, who took the suspense even higher.
Safe execution, with well-rated elements, scored 14,300 thanks to a higher difficulty, and Nemour was moving into first place.
American Dulcy Caylor (17 years old) was the first to have a noticeable miss, however, on landing, where she under-rotated and slipped on her knees, after she had very well saved the hesitation in a pirouette during the exercise. The consequence was the score of 11,800.
Qingying Zhang, the new world champion on beam
A premiere then: Amanda Yap (15 years) was becoming the first gymnast from Singapore to appear in a world final. Qualified with the seventh score, she controlled her emotions very well, sticking her soles to the beam. With 13.333 and a good execution score of 8.200, she was temporarily in 5th place.
The final was concluded by Qingying Zhang from China (18 years old), the one who entered the final with the highest score. Again delivering confidence and bravery, she ticked off the highest scores, 6.900 in difficulty, 8.266 in execution, 15.166 in total, and captured her first world title.
