Russian folk traditions and crafts will become the leitmotif of the New Year celebrations in Krasnoyarsk. The concept was approved by the organizing committee under the leadership of the acting head of the city Roman Odintsov, the mayor’s office reported.
The theme “Winter Yar” will focus on the famous crafts – Gzhel, lace and Dymkovo toys. The color scheme of the design will be beige, symbolizing linen, and red, a reference to the historical name of Krasnoyarsk.
Spiral light elements will appear on Dubrovinsky Street, and new art objects will appear in different parts of the city.
“Folk crafts are not just an integral part of our folklore. In almost every home there is a piece of this truly Russian culture. It is based on symbols and images directly related to the New Year – wishes for health, prosperity, happiness,” noted the deputy head of the city, head of the department of social development, Evgenia Yuryeva.
The holiday program includes about 180 events. The culmination will be the opening of the main Christmas tree on Tatyshev on December 26.
As part of the anniversary events, the X Festival “Magic Ice of Siberia” and the XX Winter Surikov Arts Festival will be held. Competitions for the best Christmas tree toy and carnival mask are organized for children, and in kindergartens there is an “Academy of Frosts”.
The city has prepared 185 courtyard areas for winter sports and will install 19 holiday trees, including two new ones – on Predmostnaya Square and Central Embankment. More than 76 thousand children from different categories will receive New Year's gifts.
Roman Odintsov emphasized that when creating a festive atmosphere, not only city decorations are important, but also the participation of businesses in the design of entrance areas, as well as ensuring the safety and uninterrupted operation of utilities during the holidays.
