How much does it cost to rebuild a house in Broșteni and how much money the government grants after floods. The difference is revolting: “You do not build a house, maybe a fence”

The prices of the building materials have exploded due to the VAT, and the amounts promised by the state are far from reality. The government is preparing new financial aid, but the affected residents fear that they will not be sufficient to rebuild their lives.

In 2025, the construction of a home involves considerably larger amounts than in previous years. From the prices of the construction and labor materials, to the administrative taxes and the connection to the utilities, all the costs have increased significantly, amplified by the effect of the increased VAT applied in constructions.

The amounts allocated by the Government of Romania led by Ilie Bolojan for the sinister amounted to 30,000 lei for each household, but if we look at the market for building materials, the amount is not enough to complete a dwelling for a family.

Even the president of the Suceava County Council was shown revolted by the amounts sent from the prime minister's reserve fund. “With 30,000 lei you do not build a house, maybe a fence” he said in an intervention at Digi24.

(…) When we saw that the Government of Romania is preparing to allocate 15,000 lei for a deceased person, 15,000 lei for a house that is less than 75% affected and 30,000 lei for a destroyed house (…) I do not know in which country we live, however, that it cannot be built with 30,000 lei, maybe a fence or to repair the Court.

How much does it cost, in 2025, the construction of a 100sqm house: prices exploded after VAT increased

For a house with 100 sqm (about 120 sqm built), the costs vary depending on the desired finishing level:

The “red” house, that is, structure, masonry and roof involves a budget of about 44,000 euros and this only for a house with 2-3 rooms, without floor.

The “turnkey” house, ie a completely completed house, with installations, finishes and equipments reaches about 85,500 euros.

The amounts increase if you want a house with a floor. With finishes and all the utilities, the final cost can exceed 100,000 euros.

The government is preparing the third package with financial aid for those who have been out of house

According to a Government statement, so far, the state has allocated two support packages consisting of food, living containers and financial aid for the sinister.

By the end of this week, the assessments in the localities affected by the powerful floods that destroyed everything will be completed, and during the next week, the Government will adopt the third support package for the affected communities.

While the authorities promise a new package of aid, the reality in the field remains painful: with the amounts allocated so far, the sinisters can only repair an annex, because they will restore their entire home. Dozens of families from Broșteni and other affected localities have been left without houses and remain under the open sky, hoping that the support from the Government will be as the disaster.
