MiG-31 crash in the Lipetsk region. Pilots safe

The plane, as reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense, was performing a planned training flight. “The crew of the plane ejected, the lives of the pilots are not in danger,” the Ministry of Defense said, adding that the MiG-31 crashed in a deserted area and the flight was unarmed.

The Ministry of Defense did not provide the reasons for the plane crash.

Since the beginning of 2025, this is the fourth air disaster involving military aircraft in Russia:

  • in March, an Su-25 crashed in Primorsky Krai (the pilot ejected and survived),
  • in April, a Tu-22M3 bomber crashed in the Irkutsk region (one of the pilots died during ejection),
  • in July, an Su-34 crashed in the Nizhegorod region (the Ministry of Defense reported that both crew members survived, telegram channels reported that one of the pilots died as a result of his injuries).
