The hospital saved on nurses. PLN 37 million of arrears collected


From July 1, the director of the Provincial Combined Hospital Wojciech Michalik is Ludwika Perzyna in Kalisz. He said that the documents he had read during the competition proceedings showed that the hospital had no debt. The year 2024 was completed in the amount of PLN 2 million, 2023 – a profit of nearly PLN 7 million.
After taking the position, he stated that the hospital had a debt. It concerns arrears towards nurses due to overdue remuneration for specializations and amounts to PLN 37 million.
Nurses with a master's degree should earn more
The director explained that nurses with a master's degree and specialization should receive a higher salary than those without specialization, which results from the provisions regarding the classification and remuneration in medical entities.

– The Kalisz hospital was the only one in the region who did not fulfill the receivables in this respect – he said and announced that he would pay the money, but must negotiate repayment terms with the staff. “I want it to be spread over time and without harm to the hospital,” he added.
The list of debts will be increased by the decisions of the judgments that were made in the Kalisz courts by employees' action. Disputes with the former director concerned poor calculation of salary and unequal treatment of employees in the scope of determining the amount of remuneration basic for work. Employee claims were considered justified, a The hospital is in danger of paying compensation in millions of zlotys.
Michalik announced that he would not continue his predecessor's trials and would not appeal, and The hospital will have to pay the awarded compensation.
Complicated remuneration system
According to the new boss, a very complicated remuneration system was in force in the Kalisz medical facility. – He will be simplified and unified. At the moment I am reviewing all contracts with employees – he said.
One of the doctors was to earn PLN 2 million a year. – I confirm that this was in the interest of reports and explanations of the Marshal's Office in Poznań. But I can't say anything more. We are in progress of guidelines – he said.
1500 people are employed in the hospital. The director provides for exemptions. In the first place, the reduction of positions will include administration. He explained that the decisions about who will be released are to result from the terms of the contract.
– The legitimacy of employment in a given position will be referred to the branch and performing the contract and my specialization, which – in my opinion – was not fully analyzed before – he assessed.
Notification of the prosecutor's office
The Marshal's Office in Poznań ended the control in the hospital in Kalisz and decided to notify the prosecutor's office. The irregularities found concern the period of management of the facility by former director Radosław Kołaciński.
As the spokeswoman for the Marshal of the Wielkopolska Voivodship Anna Parzyńska-Paschke said on Friday, the spokesman for public finance discipline will also be notified in addition to the prosecutor's office.
