Maintaining proper tire pressure is an important condition for the safe and economical operation of the car. It is recommended to check the pressure at least once a month, with signs of its reduction and before long trips.
According to experts on the Technoshin website (18+), the lowered wheel is able to increase the fuel consumption by at least 10%, and the tire wear is 30%. Low pressure disrupts the structure of the rubber, changes the angle of inclination of the wheel, worsens controllability and increases the braking distance.
The manufacturer indicates the optimal pressure for each car model – the data is placed in the instructions or on the stickers inside the car. Do not focus on the values indicated on the tires themselves – these are the most acceptable levels that are not suitable for everyday driving.
In the cold season The pressure is permissible to reduce to 15% of the norm, In the summer With poor road surface – up to 10%.
Pressure is measured by a pressure gauge through a nipple on a cold tire. After movement, you need to wait 2-3 hours, while the tire cools down. The manometer must be tightly attached – without the sound of air output. The measurement is carried out for all wheels at once. In most cars, the recommended pressure is 2.0–2.3 atmospheres for each tire.
If the pressure is below the norm, the tire is pumped to the recommended level in all wheels. Failure to comply with the same indicators worsens the stability of the car.
Among drivers, the opinion is that an overestimation of pressure helps to reduce fuel consumption.
“This is partly true, but the risk of early wear of tires and the loss of technical characteristics is great,” the material notes.
In the future, this can result in additional costs.
It is also important to consider that foreign manufacturers expect the recommended pressure, based on the quality of roads in their countries. In Russian conditions, it is permissible to slightly reduce the pressure with uneven coating to reduce the load on the suspension.
