Elena Udrea was operated on at the Ploiești County Emergency Hospital on Sunday, and is on intensive care, medical sources said for Agerpres.

The sources claim that Udrea was diagnosed with acute lithiasis cholecystitis, and the operation went well and the former minister remains under medical observation.

Elena Udrea, who was in the Târgșor Penitentiary, accused abdominal pain and was taken by ambulance on Sunday morning to be taken to the hospital.

Sources from the Târgșor Penitentiary told AGERPRES that it could not receive care at the penitentiary's office as the cabinet was closed during the night due to the lack of staff, a situation that has been encountered lately.

Elena Udrea was sentenced to 6 years in prison in the Gala Bute file. It is incarcerated in the Târgșor Penitentiary of June 6, 2022.

In addition to the three years of uninterrupted detention, the judges reduced them from the conviction nine months of imprisonment, representing the retention periods, preventive arrest, home arrest executed both in Romania and in Costa Rica, respectively Bulgaria.

The Ploiești District Court is expected to rule, on July 1, with a prime minister at his request for conditional release.
