Constanta City Hall announced on Wednesday that, just two weeks after the inauguration, the Casino in Constanța was vandalized. Some visitors detached the gold leaf on the walls, and others hit the freshly restored walls.

“The Casino in Constanta, reopened to the public for two weeks, received about 10,000 visitors in the four days of free entry and another 702 in the days with payment, between May 28 – June 1 (inclusive). Unfortunately, there were people who, instead of enjoying the splendor of the building and the exhibits, decided to go home,” of news.ro.

According to the City Hall, “some visitors detached the gold leaf on the walls, and others, in care or lack of respect, hit the freshly restored walls.”

The same source said that the large influx of visitors during the free period “made it impossible to detect the aggressors of the new building”, but that further steps are made to identify those who have created damages.

The representatives of the Constanta City Hall also pointed out that such facts are sanctionable, and those identified will be liable and will be obliged to bear the costs related to repairs.

The restoration teams will intervene to remedy the damages in the casino that was reopened on May 21. Although the works should have taken 30 months, starting May 2, 2020, the completion of the rehabilitation of the casino has lasts five years. Initially, the total value of the investment was estimated at almost 57 million lei, but, according to Agerpres, they reached a total value of 40 million euros (200 million lei).

“This symbol building of Constanta is not only a tourist objective, but part of the national cultural heritage, which must be respected and protected,” the City Hall of Constanța said.
