The Polish food concern wants to take over the wine manufacturer from Romania and Moldova

Maspex, the owner of Lubella and Tymbark, submitted an application to Romanian Polish Financial Supervision Authority for the acquisition of Purcari Wines shares, one of the largest wine and brandy producers in Central and Eastern Europe. The company manages vineyards and winemakers in Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria.


Maspex Romania SRL – a company belonging to the Maspex Group – submitted a request to the acquisition of the shares of Purcari Wineries to the Romanian Financial Supervision Commission (FSA) at the end of May.
As Maspex spokesman Daniel Karaś donated PAP, it's about getting a control package. Currently, the company is waiting for the offer to be approved by the FSA to go to the next stage, expected in July.
Maspex is the largest Polish group in the food industry and one of the largest in Wednesday and eastern Europe. It has about 70 brands in its portfolio, among them, among others Tymbark, Kubuś, Lubella, Łowicz and Krakus.
The group has been present on the Romanian market since the 1990s. Currently, it has been the largest Polish investor there, employing about 1,800 employees.
“Romania is the second – after Poland – the most important market for the Maspex group, both in terms of turnover, the size of completed investments and the purchasing power of consumers,” said Karaś.
Purcari Wineries is one of the largest wine and brandy producers in Central and Eastern Europe. Manages over 2,000 hectares of vineyards and leads six winery in Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria.
The history of the company dates back to 1827, when Tsar Mikołaj I issued a special decree recognizing Chateau Purcari as the first official winery in Besarabia, then belonging to the Russian Empire. The most famous product of the brand is the red black de Purcari wine. (PAP)
